Sometimes it’s hard to get to a support group. Sometimes it hurts to share your story out loud. Enter the Grief Guide. The Grief Guide takes you on an 9-week journey to process the trauma of a suicide loss all on your own.
I noticed that many of us didn’t want to share our stories or we stopped showing up to the groups after the first meeting. It felt too scary to face what happened or to say it out loud. I created this workbook as a way to take you through a similar 9-week curriculum at your own pace, in your own space, with your own box of tissues all on your own.
I hope it feels comfortable to do these exercises privately.
I can’t promise you’ll finish this Grief Guide and feel “normal” again. But I can promise relief.
You’ll journal, write letters, explore your feelings, capture your memories, process your emotions, and learn so much more about yourself, your grief, the grief of others, and suicide itself. You might even find some answers to the many questions that have been keeping you awake.
The Grief Guide is full of deep-diving prompts as well as easy-to-read bite-size facts and ideas about grief and suicide, giving you a better sense of what’s normal and why this type of grief is so different, so traumatic, and so hard.
I wrote this Grief Guide after experiencing my dad’s suicide and then leading several people through loss groups and seeing what they need, what they talk about, and what helps them feel better.
I hope it helps you to write in it as much as it helped me to create it.

This Grief Guide is designed to help people who have experienced a suicide loss process the trauma and navigate the complex emotions that often accompany such a shocking and profoundly painful event.
This 115-page workbook, created by Laurenne Sala, founder of Don’t Send Flowers, draws on her years of studying alternative therapies and leading suicide loss support groups. Each section focuses on one of the key themes most commonly shared in these groups, including guilt, anger, support systems, questions, and trauma. Through thoughtful prompts, diagrams, and insightful information about each stage of grief, you’ll be gently encouraged to confront difficult emotions while learning from the experiences of others who have walked a similar path.
The aim of this Grief Guide is to help get your feelings, thoughts, and stories onto paper, as sometimes holding them inside can be too painful. The simple act of giving them a place to go can prevent them from replaying endlessly in your mind.
While you may not be able to “cure” your grief, you can absolutely work with it.
I hope it feels comfortable to do these exercises privately.
I can’t promise you’ll finish this Grief Guide and feel “normal” again. But I can promise relief.
Maybe you’re not quite ready to jump into an 9-week plan to process your grief. Perhaps this free mini-book can help you at least find solidarity and understand what’s going on. Every little bit helps.
